Statement
The Tree View Series began in autumn as the leaves dropped from the trees revealing the lyrical lines of the branches. I was inspired by the shapes they created in the empty sky and the concept of transformation not as good or bad but normal and necessary. The resulting work has come to represent focus and appreciation of our relationship to organic and nature elements in everyday life regardless of coexistence with urban environments or man-made structures.
Light is a constant consideration so I work in a variety of lighting situations intending for each to be equally successful in a dimly lit room as daylight. The name Tree Views has a dual meaning in my work. Primarily it references two distinct vantages. One from a distance which relies on movement created with shape and color harmony and the other close up revealing the heavy textures and complexity of the color palette. It is also a subtle nod to my new media and interface design work as Tree View shares it's name with a common menu style. |
